Rivanna is the University’s new High Performance Computing cluster consisting of 240 compute nodes with 20 cores per node (4800 cores total), 128 GB RAM per node, high speed interconnect, and 1.4 PetaBytes of high speed storage. Users are given access to this resource through an allocation of SUs; one SU is equivalent to a core-hour of compute time. This form is used to request an allocation on the system beyond the initial start up allocation of 5000 SU.
The acquisition of Rivanna was through a partnership of the College, SEAS, the Library and the Data Science Institute. Partner entities control allocations on the system. People not associated with those partners can purchase time as needed at established rates ($0.025 per SU for federally-funded grants, internal U.Va. funds, and grants carrying full F&A, $0.07 per SU for all others).
Researchers who require very significant resource allocations should speak with staff in ARCS to develop their request and to determine the suitability of applying for resources at national facilities (e.g. XSEDE).
